Every BAYANG lamp is a table lamp: an object for a bedside, a desk, a sideboard or a shelf, designed in Malaysia around the shadow it throws. They are modern, sculptural and geometric rather than decorative. Some take their form from Malaysian buildings and everyday objects, some from lab equipment, some from the layers of the earth, and each one is meant as an art object as much as a light, as considered switched off as it is switched on.

About these lamps

There are twelve, in four collections. MERDEKA takes the breeze block, the fin screen and the louvre from Merdeka-era architecture. INSTRUMENT makes lamps as graphite equipment, with dials and grids. STRATA is about layers, with light coming out between them. WARISAN draws Malaysian heritage objects, the gasing, the lampu pam and the tudung saji, as lamps.

Sizes run from a low desk puck to lamps tall enough to hold a long sideboard, so there is one for a narrow nightstand and a statement piece for the dining table. Four are cordless, charged over USB-C. Seven are wired, with a Malaysian 3-pin plug, an inline switch and an LED bulb. TUDUNG runs on a 5 V LED over USB.
