Where it comes from
KONTUR is part of STRATA, which comes from layers made visible. Its source is the contour line on a survey map, where a hill becomes a stack of rings, one for each height. Here the rings are stacked back up into a solid form.
Making factEach outline is generated from a seed number by our own script, then the rings are printed on a 0.8 mm shell.
The form
A soft, irregular outline built from horizontal rings standing on a small round foot. The rings sit on a continuous thin shell, so the wall alternates thick and thin and the line between each pair of rings glows.
In the room
It is the most sculptural of the twelve and reads from across a room, so give it space: a sideboard, a console or a side table by a sofa, with nothing tall beside it.
How it's made
The rings sit on one continuous 0.8 mm shell with a closed floor, which is why the contour lines glow. Its outline is generated by a script from a seed number. The mains parts (cord, switch, lampholder and bulb) are bought-in electrical parts, never printed.
I write code for a living, and KONTUR is the one lamp where the code draws the shape. I just choose which hill to keep. — Fakhrul
