Where it comes from
GASING comes from the gasing, the Malaysian spinning top, played and spun in competition in Kelantan and across the peninsula. WARISAN, our heritage collection, takes objects you know on sight and draws them with clean geometry and flat colour.
Making factIt prints in three parts, a translucent crown, a grey rim band and a wood-fill cone, and sits in a dock shaped to the cone.
The form
A wide, shallow top: a glowing crown with two red rings and a small turned knob, a steel-grey band at its widest point, and a cone below it. The dock has a conical socket that matches the cone, so the gasing rests on a ring and never on its point.
In the room
GASING gives a soft, wide glow from its crown, enough to light a shelf or the middle of a table. It belongs with the other WARISAN lamps at Raya, and on its own in a modern room it is a conversation piece.
How it's made
The gasing prints in three parts: a translucent crown, the rim band and a wood-fill cone. The LED and battery sit inside the gasing, and it charges through contacts in the dock. The light is a ready-made rechargeable LED module with its own charge protection.
A gasing is all about balance and motion. This one gets to rest in its dock and glow, which felt like the right ending for it. — Fakhrul
