Where it comes from
TERAS is part of STRATA, a collection that comes from layers: geological core samples, contour lines, and the layer-by-layer way these lamps are made. Teras means core. The bands are the record of a column drawn out of the ground.
Making factIt prints in vase mode as one continuous spiral wall, so the shell has no seam at all.
The form
A single cylinder in which thick and thin wall sections alternate. The thin sections pass more light and read as bright lines; the thick ones stay softer. The battery and LED sit in the base, and show through as a gentle shadow when it is lit.
In the room
TERAS is the smallest of the lamps and the most portable. Carry it from the bedside to the dressing table to the dinner table; it gives a low, warm light rather than lighting a whole room.
How it's made
TERAS prints in vase mode, a single continuous spiral wall, so there is no seam anywhere on the shell. The bands are thick and thin sections of that one wall. The light is a ready-made rechargeable LED module with its own charge protection.
TERAS was the simplest idea of the twelve: let the layers be the decoration. It is also the lamp I would hand someone first. — Fakhrul
